Canada Carbon Rebate 2025

How much is your Canada Carbon Rebate this year? Amounts vary by province. Find your quarterly payment, payment dates, and the rural supplement.

What Is the Canada Carbon Rebate?

The Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR) — formerly called the Climate Action Incentive Payment (CAIP) — is a tax-free quarterly payment that returns the federal fuel charge revenues directly to households in provinces where the federal carbon pricing system applies.

The rebate is designed so that most households receive more in rebates than they pay in carbon charges. Lower-income Canadians and rural residents typically come out furthest ahead.

Which provinces get the CCR? Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador. British Columbia, Quebec, and Northwest Territories have their own carbon pricing systems and do not receive the federal CCR.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Carbon Rebate taxable?
No. The Canada Carbon Rebate is completely tax-free and does not count as income. It does not affect your eligibility for the GST credit, CCB, GIS, or any other income-tested benefit.
I live in BC — why don't I get the federal Carbon Rebate?
British Columbia has its own provincial carbon tax system that predates the federal program. BC residents receive a separate BC Climate Action Tax Credit instead. Quebec also uses its own cap-and-trade system and does not receive the federal CCR.
What if I moved provinces during the year?
Your CCR is based on the province where you lived on December 31 of the tax year. If you moved from Ontario to Alberta on December 1, you'd receive Alberta's higher CCR rate for the full year. Keep your CRA address updated.
Will the Carbon Rebate continue in future years?
The federal government has signaled that the consumer carbon price and associated rebate program may be subject to political changes. As of 2025, the CCR continues to be paid quarterly. Check the federal budget announcements for the latest updates on the program's future.
