Canada Child Benefit (CCB) 2025

The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is a tax-free monthly payment made to eligible families to help with the cost of raising children under 18 years of age. The CCB replaced the previous Universal Child Care Benefit and Canada Child Tax Benefit in 2016 and provides higher, income-tested payments targeted to families that need them most.

CCB Payment Amounts 2025

For the 2024–2025 benefit year (July 2024 to June 2025), the maximum annual CCB amounts are:

These maximum amounts apply to families with net income below approximately $36,502. The benefit is gradually reduced as family net income increases above this threshold.

A family with two children under 6 and net income below $36,502 could receive up to $15,574 per year — over $1,297 per month — completely tax-free.

Who Is Eligible for the CCB?

To receive the CCB, you must:

How to Apply for the CCB

You can apply for the CCB in several ways:

  1. Through birth registration — Most provinces allow you to apply for the CCB when registering your child's birth. This is the fastest method.
  2. CRA My Account — Apply online through your CRA account under "Apply for child benefits"
  3. RC66 form — Complete the Canada Child Benefits Application form and mail it to the CRA

Both parents (if applicable) must file their income tax returns each year to continue receiving the CCB. Failure to file will result in payments being stopped.

CCB Payment Dates 2025

CCB is paid on approximately the 20th of each month:

Child Disability Benefit

Families who receive the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) for a child can also receive the Child Disability Benefit — an additional payment of up to $3,173 annually per child with a disability. This is paid automatically with the CCB if the child is approved for the DTC.

How the CCB Is Calculated

The CCB is based on your adjusted family net income from the prior year and the number and ages of your children. The benefit is reduced in two phases as income rises:

Keeping Your CCB Accurate

Notify the CRA promptly when your situation changes: marital status changes, a child starts or stops living with you, or your residency status changes. Overpayments must be repaid, so staying current avoids surprises.
