Every important CRA deadline for the 2025 tax season — personal T1 returns, corporate T2, GST/HST, payroll, RRSP contributions, and tax instalment dates. Never miss a deadline again.
Last day to make RRSP contributions that count toward your 2024 tax deduction. Contributions must be received by your financial institution by this date.
CRA begins accepting electronically filed 2024 T1 returns. File early for a faster refund — average 8–14 business days for NETFILE with direct deposit.
Filing and payment deadline for most individual taxpayers. Any balance owing must be paid by April 30 to avoid interest — even for self-employed filers who have until June 15 to file the return itself.
Extended filing deadline for self-employed individuals and their spouses. Important: the balance owing must still be paid by April 30. Filing late does not extend the payment deadline.

The late filing penalty is 5% of the balance owing, plus 1% of the balance for each full month late, up to 12 months (maximum 17%). If you've been assessed a late filing penalty before in the past 3 years, the penalty doubles: 10% plus 2%/month for up to 20 months. Always file on time — even if you can't pay the full balance.
The RRSP contribution deadline for the 2024 tax year is March 3, 2025. Contributions made between January 1 and March 3, 2025, can be designated as 2024 contributions (or carried forward). Your 2024 RRSP contribution room is 18% of your 2023 earned income, up to $31,560. Check your My CRA Account or 2023 Notice of Assessment for your available room.
Yes — if your required instalment payments exceed your actual payments by more than $1,000, CRA charges interest on the shortfall at the prescribed rate from the due date. There's no separate "penalty" for missing instalments, but the interest compounds. CRA reduces interest if you overpay in later quarters — making up a missed March instalment by June 15 reduces the interest owing.
CRA does not grant individual extensions to the April 30 deadline for regular taxpayers (outside of specific declared disaster situations). The June 15 extension applies specifically to self-employed individuals and their spouses — not to employees or retirees. If you're expecting a refund, late filing is less harmful financially (no late penalty without a balance owing), but benefits tied to income assessment may be delayed.
TFSA contribution room accumulates at $7,000/year for 2025 (for eligible Canadians 18+ with valid SIN). The room resets on January 1 each year — any withdrawals made in 2024 are re-added to your room on January 1, 2025. Check your My CRA Account for your exact available TFSA room, including any unused room from prior years.
Quebec residents file both a federal T1 (with CRA) and a provincial TP-1 return (with Revenu Québec) — both have an April 30 deadline for most residents (June 15 for self-employed). Quebec's instalment threshold is lower: $1,800 vs. the federal $3,000. Quebec also administers QST separately from the federal GST. Quebec is the only province where residents file with two separate tax agencies.
