BC-Specific Student Aid Programs

BC Access Grant

The BC Access Grant targets students from low- and middle-income families. It can reduce or eliminate the need for student loans for eligible students. The grant is automatically considered when you apply through StudentAid BC — no separate application needed.

BC Completion Grant

The BC Completion Grant provides additional funding for students in their final year of a diploma or degree program. It rewards students who are on track to complete their studies and is awarded automatically based on your StudentAid BC application.

BC Loan Forgiveness Program

BC offers loan forgiveness for doctors, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses who work in underserved rural and remote communities. Eligible professionals can have a portion of their BC Student Loan forgiven for each year of qualifying service. See also the federal Canada Student Loan Forgiveness program.

Repayment: 6-Month Grace Period

After leaving school, you have a 6-month grace period before loan repayment begins. During this time:

After the grace period, BC Student Loan repayment is managed through the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC). Standard repayment is over 9.5 years.

BC Repayment Assistance

If your income is too low to afford standard payments, the federal Repayment Assistance Plan (RAP) applies to your Canada Student Loan portion. BC also has provincial repayment assistance for BC Student Loans. See our RAP guide for full details.

Out-of-Province Students from BC

BC students studying at institutions outside BC can still apply for StudentAid BC — as long as the institution is designated and you remain a BC resident. The application process is the same.
