Common questions

Is this a real will?

Yes. A Last Will and Testament prepared through Voss Wills is a legally enforceable will when signed in the presence of two qualified witnesses according to your province's wills statute. The document is generated using the same statutory language a lawyer would draft.

Is this legal advice?

No. Voss Wills is a software tool that converts your answers into a properly formatted will. It does not provide legal advice within the meaning of the Law Society Act of Ontario or equivalent statutes in other provinces. For estate planning advice on tax minimization, business succession, or contested matters, retain a licensed lawyer or notary in your province.

What about Quebec?

Quebec is governed by the Civil Code, not common law wills statutes. Voss Wills produces a Will Before Witnesses (testament devant temoins) for Quebec residents. For a Notarial Will, you must retain a Quebec notaire. We refer.

Do I need witnesses?

Yes, in every Canadian province two adult witnesses who are not beneficiaries are required. Some provinces permit virtual witnessing under regulations such as Ontario O. Reg. 431/20. We coordinate.

Can I update the will later?

Yes. You can amend by creating a Codicil ($49) or replace by creating a new will, which automatically revokes the prior one as long as the new will expressly states so. Voss Wills retains your prior version for reference.

What if I have complex needs (multiple businesses, trusts, US assets)?

Complex estate planning needs a lawyer. Voss Wills is designed for the 80 percent of Canadians whose estate plan can be handled in plain language. We refer the 20 percent whose plan cannot be.
