Doubled zeros in dollar figuresabout 1,600 pages
A faulty bulk edit, made on or before July 8, corrupted dollar figures across roughly 1,600 pages by doubling zeros inside the numbers. Affected pages showed amounts larger than the real offers. The corrupted figures stayed live for over a week before we caught them on July 16. On a site whose entire job is publishing accurate dollar amounts, this is the worst kind of error we can make, and it is the first entry in this log for a reason.
Found and fixed it the same day, July 16. Because the corruption was mechanical, it could be reversed deterministically: every affected figure was restored by reversing the original edit, not re-typed by hand, so the fix could not introduce new typos. We also stood up an automated monitor that rechecks figures across the site every 30 minutes, so this class of error now gets caught in minutes instead of days.
